Directions

Step 1

- Split the sardines in two on the belly, open them and remove the bones. Rinse them thoroughly. Pat them dry with paper towels. Arrange them in a shallow dish, flesh side up. Sprinkle with coarse salt and ground pepper, sprinkle with lemon juice.

Step 2

- Finely chop 2 cloves of garlic. Open the pepper and remove the seeds, then chop it. Chop all the herbs.

Step 3

- Mix the garlic, herbs and chilli with the olive oil. Pour half of it over the sardines. Cover with cling film and leave to marinate for 2 hours.

Step 4

- Just before serving, toast the bread slices. Rub them while still warm with the last peeled garlic clove. Spread them with sauce and add a fillet of sardine. Enjoy as an appetizer or starter. Our advice: prepare the sardines the day before and let them marinate overnight.
